A native of Canton Ticino in Switzerland, Daniela Droz settled in Lausanne at the age of 19 to become a photographer. She studied at ECAL (Ecole Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne) where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Photography in 2008 and where she currently teaches photography. The different series of photos of Ms Droz share – despite their apparent discrepancy – a unique approach, which is inspired by a desire to search for hints of the beauty and perfection in things and people.
Daniela Droz makes visible the reality, which is midway between shadow and lightness. Humbly, through her abstract compositions and installations, the artist explores the metaphysical question of the existence and relationship between the inner self and the outside world, which seems to be possible only through the senses and change.
Ms Droz won first prize at the BFF in Stuttgart in 2009 and was nominated for Che c’è di nuovo by the Museo Cantonale d’Arte in Lugano, Switzerland in 2010 and the Swiss Design Awards in 2012. In 2018, she participated in group exhibitions, such as 14 Artisti at Buchmann Galerie and Galleria Daniele Agostini in Carona, Switzerland and Paris Art Fair at Grand Palais de Paris. She also had a solo exhibition entitled L’envers du visible at Château de Gruyères in Switzerland.
